Frequent Flyer Miles Extended to Bitcoin Enthusiasts
Bitcoin – the peer-to-peer digital currency that emphasizes economic transactions outside of centralized banking institutions – has been gaining headway in niche markets for the past few years. However, the markets that currently accept bitcoins are relatively few and far between at the moment. But this is rapidly changing, as evidenced by the inclusion of bitcoins as a legitimate payment form by over 250 airlines worldwide.
Bitnet, a multi-million dollar bitcoin payment processing company, has partnered with the payment network Universal Air Travel Plan (UATP) in order to facilitate payments via bitcoin for travelers. This landmark agreement extends frequent flyer mileage programs to the numerous bitcoin users across the globe.
Among the over 250 international airlines now accepting bitcoin payment through Bitnet are American Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, and British Airways. Further, this partnership allows for bitcoin users to pay for other amenities with bitcoins – from upgrades to business class to car and hotel room rentals.
